Where Merlin Started

Merlin is a rescue. He came to his family as a two-year-old Australian Shepherd, and he was rowdy, anxious, and had been allowed to become a bully in his own house.

He did not focus. He did not follow commands. His family loved him and had run out of ideas, which is usually the point at which someone finally picks up the phone.

The Training Journey

Merlin came to us for our two-week board and train program with Lindsey.

What sold his family was not a sales pitch. It was talking with Lindsey, and then meeting her. Skepticism is a fair starting position when you are handing over your dog for two weeks, and we would rather answer the hard questions up front than have an owner wondering all the way home.

Over those two weeks Merlin learned to focus and to follow commands, and he learned something more basic than either: that he is not the one in charge. For an anxious dog who has been running the household, that is a relief, not a punishment. Structure is what lets an anxious dog put the job down.

His family did not sit out those two weeks. Lindsey taught both of them how to work with Merlin themselves, so the e-collar became a communication tool in their hands rather than something only a trainer could use.

Merlin came home with a solid foundation in obedience, and with something his family names specifically: an understanding of human trust.

His owner puts the change plainly. They always knew he was smart. Now he is far more fun to be around, because he actually listens and follows their directions.
